Peter Solomon is the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, thus he has a few billion dollars in his bank account. He went to Yale whose “second-rate diploma” Langdon joked to be “the lone tarnish on his sterling pedigree.” Peter is a mason of the 33rd degree. He is four years older than his sister, Katherine Solomon, she is also his only living family member. He had a child, Zachary Solomon, who was presumed dead.
When Robert Langdon was a sophomore at Princeton University, Peter gave a lecture there on semiotics and archetypal history which sparked in the young Langdon his passion for symbols. Peter's humility inspired Langdon to write him afterward and a gratifying friendship began; although he was only 12 years older than Langdon, he also became a father figure to him.
In the 2021 television series, based on The Lost Symbol, Peter was portrayed by Eddie Izzard and He also had a daughter named Katherine and a son named Zachary.
